Michael Sykes

Principal Geophysicist

Michael graduated from Curtin University with a BSc (Hons) degree in Physics in 1981. In 2000, he received his PhD for research work on “Some techniques for the enhancement of electromagnetic data for mineral exploration”.

Michael then joined the Defence Science and Technology Organisation as a Research Scientist. In 2005, he returned the minerals industry working for Fugro Airborne Surveys and then as a Research Fellow at Curtin University’s Centre of Excellence for High Resolution Geophysics. Before joining SGC in 2010 as a Senior Geophysicist, Michael was involved with the processing of seismic data for oil and gas exploration at DownUnder GeoSolutions.

Michael’s main areas of interest are electromagnetic modelling and inversion. He is an active member of the ASEG.

Michael has a vineyard in Bickley and spends his spare time at the cellar door or supporting the Swan Districts Football Club.
