Heather Ballantyne
Principal Geophysicist
Heather graduated from Macquarie University in 2005 with a BSc in Geology and Geophysics, with 1st class honours in Geophysics.
In 2006, she joined Newmont Mining as a graduate geologist where she worked at mines in North Queensland and Kalgoorlie. In 2008, Heather joined Newmont’s greenfields exploration team gaining exploration experience in orogenic gold in WA, orogenic gold in the Tanami NT, epithermal Au/Ag in North Queensland and Au/Cu porphyry exploration in the Lachlan Fold Belt, NSW.
In 2010, Heather moved to Nevada in the USA as the Great Basin Regional Geophysicist for Newmont North America. In this role, she looked after geophysics projects for exploration and sites in Nevada and Utah. She gained experience targeting Carlin-style Au, epithermal Au/Ag and porphyry Cu/Au. Heather moved back to Australia in 2013 as Senior Geophysicist for Newmont’s APAC region, looking after geophysics projects across Australia, NZ and Indonesia. From 2015, Heather travelled extensively and also worked as an exploration geologist in Western Australia. She joined SGC in mid-2017 as a Principal Geophysicist.
Heather has skills in survey planning, data processing, exploration project management, integrated geology and geophysics interpretations and extensive experience in gold targeting.
Heather is a member of the ASEG and SEG.
