Andrew Roberts

Principal Geophysicist

Andy has 18 years of professional experience as a mineral exploration geophysicist, with a strong interest in integrating geology, petrophysics, and geophysics to enhance exploration targeting in both greenfields and brownfields environments.

He completed a BSc (Hons) in Geology and Geophysics at the University of Adelaide in 2008 and began his career working with junior exploration companies in Adelaide. During this time, he worked primarily on diamond and roll-front uranium projects in the Flinders Ranges and Eromanga Basin, as well as an iron ore resource project in the Pilbara.

In 2010, Andy joined SGC as a Geophysicist, gaining broad exposure to a wide range of geophysical methods. His development was supported by extensive training and mentoring from many colleagues, with special acknowledgement to the late Bruce Craven.

Between 2015 and 2020, Andy gained valuable international experience. He spent two years at the Sepon mine in Lao PDR managing geophysics-driven UXO clearance activities, before moving to Santiago, Chile, to realise his ambition of working in the high Andes. He subsequently held Senior Geophysicist roles with Barrick Gold and later Teck Resources, contributing geophysical expertise as part of multidisciplinary regional geoscience teams supporting exploration programs across Chile, Peru, and Argentina.

Andy returned to Australia in 2020 to start a family and began working as an independent geophysical consultant. In this capacity, he provided ongoing, ad hoc advice to several major companies on projects both domestically and internationally.

He rejoined SGC at the beginning of 2026 as a Principal Geophysicist and currently works remotely in Melbourne.

Andy is an active member of the ASEG and AIG and is currently serving on the committee of the ASEG Victoria Branch.
